Funding & support

Moving into teaching costs less than people assume.

There is usually training, and sometimes money, attached to the move. What is available changes, so treat this as an orientation rather than a definitive list.

  1. Teaching qualifications while you work

Most colleges support new lecturers to gain a recognised teaching qualification in post, often funded by the employer.

  2. Bursaries for shortage subjects

Bursaries are periodically available for priority technical subjects. Availability and amounts change, so we check what is current before advising.

  3. Assessor and quality assurance awards

Shorter awards that let you assess learners against industry standards, often a first paid step alongside your existing work.

  4. Industry placement and dual professional schemes

Arrangements that let you keep one foot in the trade while teaching part of the week.

Tell us your trade and where you are, and we will tell you what looks realistic.
